Officially 20 years old (a toast to my favorite movie of all time)

How many times have you said you loved a particular movie, only realizing years later how wrong you were? It is fair that we can't help but be awestruck by the wonders of first-time discovery. As our minds mature, we realize how outdated and cringe worthy they were. If a movie you've seen a million times stands the test of time, then you know it has done more than one thing right. For that reason, it is in my belief that my love for this movie isn't driven purely by nostalgia.

As a child back in Taiwan, I loved the movie to bits and pieces. even conversational scenes I didn't understand yet memorized phonetically. As an adult, it was a pleasing revelation at how rich the writing was with engaging dialogue. Besides that, it was the ground breaking visuals that embodies the entire film. At the time of its release, it accomplished light years of what was once considered impossible in movie-making magic.

  Though the experience was grand on a small tube TV, it was the opportunity of a life time with the theatrical re-release. Revisiting this movie in that scope was a miraculous rediscovery, which I've experienced four times (a personal best). Every time I did, I thought of seeing it again. I'm that jealous at other parts of the world now getting their share of the re-release, even better as a summer escape movie.

An unforgettable story with all the right ingredients. It makes you feel right at home with a thrilling adventure filled with beauty, mystery, horror and innocence. A land mark in the history of cinema that's surely to transcend generations to come. It is why a toy raptor sits on top of my dresser to this day. In conjunction with what was said, I can not say more than I already have. Happy official twenty years to one of the best movies of all time. J
